On Tuesday the 17th. of May the latest cohort (No.7) to commence the Dementia Champions Programme had their first day at Hamilton Campus.
The Champions programme was launched in 2010 to support the educational actions arising from Scotland’s first National Dementia Strategy. The Scottish Government (SG) commissioned NHS Education for Scotland (NES) and the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) to initiate the Programme which forms part of wider initiatives to support improvements in the care and treatment of people with dementia admitted to, or at risk of admission to general hospital settings. The aim of the programme is to support the development of champions as change agents in improving the experience, care, treatment and outcomes for people with dementia, their families and carers in general hospitals and at the interface between hospital and community settings. Our school in partnership with Alzheimer Scotland have been delivering the programme since its outset. To date we have successfully developed 600 plus champions and cohort 7, will add up to 130 more!
Great to see all the enthusiastic faces as they start their journey.
