Four students were recently awarded the Jean Lochhead Campbell Student Award for Nursing Practice in the Community at the University’s recent graduation ceremonies.

Lynn Mary Aitken, Karen Graham, Rebekah Manson and Margheeda Millard graduated from the school with a BSc in Adult Nursing with Distinction at Ayr Town Hall on 8 November, The Town House in Hamilton on 10 November, Thomas Coats Memorial Baptist Church on 16 November and Crichton Memorial Church on 22 November respectively.

All four received the award at their graduation, which added to their celebrations on the day.

The Jean Lochhead Campbell Student Award for Nursing Practice in the Community, which was launched in May 2013, is named after former Lanarkshire District Nurse, Jean Lochhead Campbell and was donated by her son, Ali Campbell, in acknowledgement of his late mothers’ commitment and compassion to providing care to patients and their families in the community.

The annual award recognises BSc Adult Nursing students across the University’s campuses who have demonstrated excellence and potential in making a difference to the ongoing care of patients and their families in the community. Nominations for this award are put forward by health professionals mentoring third-year adult nursing students during the clinical practice element of their degree who feel they have made a significant difference.

Commenting on the award, celebrity Life Coach and internationally Bestselling author, Ali Campbell said:

“My mum was a hands-on nurse whose caring touch and compassion to her patients is remembered to this day. Nursing is about much more than academic achievement and this award in her name is in recognition of that.”
