Providing the opportunity for sports professionals, practitioners and academics to gain a unique insight from one of the world’s most iconic and successful football clubs, the University of the West of Scotland is delighted to invite you to a joint seminar by UWS School of Health & Life Sciences and FC Barcelona on elite football recruitment and training.

Professor Vish Unnithan, of UWS School of Health & Life Sciences, and Dr Antonio Gómez Diaz, FC Barcelona’s First Team Strength & Conditioning Coach, will deliver an insightful seminar focusing on the FC Barcelona approach to talent identification and physical preparation of elite football players. The session will cover:

Talent identification and development – in elite youth football. The first session will place special emphasis on the FC Barcelona methodology used for player recruitment: a methodology that has been central in developing some of the world’s most successful footballers.

FC Barcelona training methodologies – the second session will present the unique FC Barcelona coadjuvant methodologies used for training the FC Barcelona First Team: training based on improving the continuous development of the game and applying a systemic perspective.

Not everything our academics do is related to Health and Social Care. One of our Mental Health Lecturers Dr Mark Gillespie, based at the Paisley Campus has just had his local history book   “When the Gorbals Fought Franco” about Glasgow’s involvement in the Spanish Civil War added to the University of Barcelona’s Archives on the “International Brigade”

His entry to the archive can be viewed at http://sidbrint.ub.edu/es/node/39001

If you want to read more about Glasgow and the support it gave to the Spanish Civil War then the book  “When the Gorbals Fought Franco” is  available on Kindle from Amazon Books (Click here) or can be obtained in paperback from Calton Books (Click here)
